Our Loftiest Goal? Zilch.
Zero isn’t just a number. It’s a direction and a promise that our biggest leap forward is one that leaves nothing behind. Our landmark net 0.0 kg CO₂e carbon footprint—versus a standard sneaker, which is about 14 kg CO2e based on our calculations—is achieved without relying on a single carbon offset. This may seem like rocket science, but really, no carbon emissions are the best carbon emissions.

Sharing The Secret Sauce
On June 27, 2023, we unveiled our groundbreaking M0.0NSHOT Zero prototype to the world at the Global Fashion Summit, the premier international forum for sustainability in fashion.
During the event, we also shared our journey to zero: Our RECIPE B0.0K, an open-sourced toolkit of how we created a net zero carbon shoe. It’s our open invitation to the industry, made free for the taking. Because when it comes to reversing climate change, copycats aren’t just welcome—they’re essential.

Wondrous Wool
We knew that building a net-zero carbon shoe meant starting with an age-old material sourced in pioneering ways—wool made carbon-negative through innovative farming practices. This led us to Lake Hawea Station in New Zealand, a regenerative farm that produces premium merino wool and, impressively, sequesters morecarbon than it emits. To achieve this distinction, they’ve created a best-in-class program that focuses on native plantings, protecting large areas of regenerating forest, new pasture species, and more.

Maximized Minimalist Design
At Allbirds, we’re all about designs that reflect the perfect amount of nothing—just like the natural world, we see beauty in simplicity. And M0.0NSHOT Zero embodies that ethos to the fullest.
But to minimize climate impact, we had to maximize our carbon-negative material. Namely, the regenerative wool. So we applied the material around the entirety of the shoe, allowing us to counteract more carbon-intensive parts of a shoe’s lifecycle to level out at net zero.

Sweeter On The Planet
Our SuperLight midsole foam is made from carbon-negative, sugarcane-derived green EVA that boasts approximately 70% bio-based content. That means a minimized use of petroleum-based synthetics, which are often the main ingredient in conventional midsole foam. Bonus? Our midsole is not only kinder on Mother Nature but unbelievably supportive for the feet too.
